If you like to have an intense and quality training in becoming a pilates instructor, you can go to various schools with a studio or a gym. Top on the list known to be a major school are Peak Pilates, Physical Mind Institute, Romana’s, Pole Star and Stott. Know that certification is offered in two different kinds, and these are training on a pilates machine and the other one is for mat pilates. You would need to have the two types of certification if hou plan to become an instructor in both forms to students.
Each school have a slight method that differ in pilates with differing philosophies, but all offer an intensive training course to individuals who want to become certified and knowledgeable instructors. With people’s different fitness levels and physical abilities, the schools will adjust to these conditions and give complete education on the exercise method, even if the style of exercise differ in philosophy.
It is good then to know some of these schools and see how they differ so you can make a choice fit for you.
A three level course is offered in Peak Pilates that can be taken for a period of 452 hours that you can split up over a year or more. In this school, they concentrate on mat and machine pilates that are based on the method of contemporary pilates, and would start for beginners to the advanced level of intensity. A basic mat certification is needed for one to enter the 452 hour program.
The Physical Mind Institute is offering also contemporary pilates but focuses on the mental aspects, and they offer three different courses on standing pilates, mat pilates and comprehensive pilates.
In the next school Romana’s Pilates, they offer a 600 hour course series that focuses on the method of classic Pilates.
The school of Stott Pilates offer potential instructors also the contemporary pilates for an intensive 310 hour mat instruction course together with an additional 165 hour on pilates machine instruction course.
With over 240 hour contemporary pilates instruction program, the Pole Star Pilates focuses on physical therapy and rehabilitation.
Generally, one or two intensive weekend sessions are covered to complete certification courses offered in these mentioned schools. For you to get the basic mat certification, you should be able to demonstrate each pilates exercise, be able to explain how the exercise is done, and tell which muscles are working and the results in performing the exercise continuously in the next weeks or months.
To complete the course, one usually would spend from $250 to $5,000 depending on how you want your course to be advanced.
